When we go into a project like the pond in the photo below, you almost can't believe what happens and how fast it happens. If you look at that photo, you'll see there is virtually no open water. And if you were to sit quietly at one of these ponds or bays and just watch and listen, you'll see and hear very little wildlife. That water is choked top to bottom, shore to shore with weeds and is very common to many of the jobs we do.
Once we start working however, things start to change almost immediately. Fish literally will come to the newly open water and breath at the surface almost like they've been suffocating. The ducks and other waterfowl land and feed and take off again. The herons and egrets come back to hunt again. Waterfowl will nest on these waters again. The fish can grow longer than a couple inches. The eagles and hawks can hunt again and may also nest nearby this renewed food source. The wind blowing over the open water can now make waves again, helping to reduce stagnant water. The deer come down into the now-open water to drink instead of the nasty, stale stuff in the weeds around the edges. The frogs and turtles can actually swim instead of struggling through the thick vegetation.
It goes on and on, and we never imagined it would happen so quickly, but we've seen it first hand many, many times. We don't sterilize waters, we remove the excessive overgrowth and invasive weeds. And if those weeds aren't removed and controlled, these ponds and bays will eventually fill in and turn to swamp and then to dirt. We got into this business is FOR the wildlife and the environment because we live on the water too.
There are things you can do on your own to help your water after we're done removing heavy weeds, cattails, logs, debris, sediment, etc. Click below to learn more.
